Giving to the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA ...

One person can truly make an impact and change lives by giving to the YMCA. People can donate their time, talent, or financial resources to build up the programs and mission of the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA.

The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA has been serving Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties since 1964. The life-changing work we do with children, teens, adults, and families would not be possible without the support of hundreds of volunteers and donors.

Giving Programs:

Invest in YouthAn annual scholarship appeal to provide the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA with the necessary funds to insure people can participate in YMCA programs regardless of financial means. The Board of Directors and the Corporate Advisory Committee (CAC) among other enterprises go out to the public to tell the YMCA story and ask people to participate. Last year we were able to give $122,000 in scholarship support to kids and families in needs because of the generosity of people.

The New YMCA Capital Campaign – this is the boldest effort embarked by the YMCA to build a new YMCA with over 90% of the project being funded by donations.

The Essential Phase is a 89,900 sq.ft. “essential phase”, a $14.5 million plan with $12 million in donations needed for building. Groundbreaking will begin when we have achieved $11.2 million in donations and pledges.

The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation is our partner in this regional transformational effort.

Have you reviewed your will or living trust lately?

Consider making a bequest in your will or living trust to the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA.

People have inquired how to include the YMCA in their will or living trust.  You can insert simple language like:

"I devise and bequeath to the Grand Traverse Bay Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), Traverse City, Michigan, Federal ID #38-1709640, (insert sum or percentage or description of property) which shall be used for such YMCA purposes as the Board of Directors may determine."

Please always consult with legal counsel or your other financial professionals to make sure any changes in your will or living trust are recorded correctly and have taken into account all aspects of this kind of gift including future needs.

Other kinds of asset gifts to the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA could include real estate, vacation or investment property, timber, personal property, insurance, appreciated stock, or beneficiary designations when required on IRAs, insurance, annuities, certificates of deposits, etc.

Consult with the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation concerning life income options like charitable gift annuities, remainder trusts, and the like that directly benefit the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA.
